The American Patriot's Almanac by William J Bennett and John T.E. Cribb

This book is not only very informative, but it is actually quite fun.  It takes you through the full calendar year and gives you a glimpse into history for each day.  I will be using this as a coffee table book because I think this is a great conversation starter.  It is fun to sit down and look up dates that are important to you (birthdays, anniversaries) and see what was going on in America on those days.

I also liked the extra sections that the book included, like the History of the Stars and Stripes, Fifty American Quotes, the information about how the constitution was written.  I personally appreciated the sections on Faith and the Founders and Prayers for the American People.  Too many people do not realize how entrenched in religion our founding fathers were.  We have moved too far away from their ideals and getting information out may awaken people to the misinformation that they have held as truths.

This book may take a bit of time to read, but it is definitely worth the effort.  There is a lot to learn within these pages.  It is very well written and easy to understand.  It is not a dry history book but will keep your interest as you move throughout the year.
